I'm trying to figure out ways to attract business to my used book store, any ideas?
Free or moderately priced tea. a cabinet with a tea machine and tasty tea is an additional thing to attract business and it doesn't seem like it would be a out sized investment.
Good day
Type up some cheap Leaflets – either 4 per A4 page and cut them up and go put them on Car windscreens in your area.
Print some A5 pieces and put them into peoples letter boxes.
Keep them SIMPLE – get your message across – You're HERE – You've LANDED – GREAT SUPER EXCITING SALE on Saturday ….
Find free places to advertise – little leaflets or booklets that go out just to your area.
Are there any notice boards around where you can put up a notice.
Can you book store have a coffee and cake stand to invite people in – sometimes a lounge area with an online source (pay as you go) helps because some people don't have computers at home so you will build traffic by offering this service.
Good luck and enjoy.

One of the most important things that any website owner needs is a continuous stream of traffic to their site. As more and more websites compete for the same targeted traffic, webmasters have to constantly deal with the predicament of getting the traffic that they need to keep their online business going. this problem has also been the subject of countless solutions and ideas from varied sources. As can be expected, some of these solutions have been useful, some have proven to be a waste of time, and a few others have been rubbish, to say the least.
One of the good ideas, though, that has resulted in getting loads of traffic into websites is the concept of viral marketing. The idea of viral marketing makes use of a person’s natural instinct to tell others about something that he or she has found to be useful, entertaining, or remarkable. As a matter of fact, companies both online and in the real world have relied on “word of mouth” to promote their services or products.
There are several ways to attract people and encourage them to spread the word about a certain product or service. it can be a funny anecdote, an addictive game, or a flashy production number. Viral marketing is a truly inventive and inexpensive method of advertising and promotion, which any businessman would do well to use. Even if you do have to spend some money, the benefits of a successful viral marketing campaign would greatly overshadow the costs.
Tell-A-Friend Scripts
If you’re going to use viral marketing, using a Tell-a-Friend script would probably be the easiest way to start. this is a simple programming script that webmasters can include in their website’s programming. Tell-a-friend scripts are usually installed in web pages where any form of media, such as a video, a flash game, etc. is also installed. this makes it easy enough for users to inform their friends or family members about the interesting media they saw on that particular site. Sometimes they can even send the media itself, depending on the programming of the script.
The script allows a person to enter his contact details such as name, his email address, and the email address of the person he’s sending the media to. he can then send the media file to anyone he wants to, like an attachment to an email. because the recipient recognizes the name of the sender as a friend or family member, the thought of spam mail would never enter his mind. The chances of the media being blocked by the recipient would be gone, since tell-a-friend scripts always send out the media based on the information that the sender inputs. Granted, this is quite a devious method, but the results can be surprisingly effective as well.
When the email is received, the attached media will either be viewed, heard, or read. The email would also include a blurb or two about the company or website sponsoring the media. this is how you can initially promote your products, services, or even just your website for starters. of course, another tell-a-friend script will be included as well. As the entire process begins anew, more and more people will know about your website or company that sponsors the media files. there is the additional benefit of people clicking on the links in the emails they receive, which means additional traffic for your site. Additional traffic could also mean additional prospects.
Using Tell-A-Friend Scripts
It doesn’t need any complex programming skills to use tell-a-friend scripts on your website. actually, you can install it on your web page simply by copying and pasting the script’s code. It’s also very easy to find one on the Internet. Just type in “tell a friend script” in any search engine and press enter. you will see a number of sites where you can go and download the scripts you want. It’s all a matter of looking for it, then copy-pasting it onto your site.
Tell-a-friend scripts can become one of your most potent weapons in your viral marketing campaign. this harmless script, although quite simple, can do wonders for driving much-needed traffic to your site. you do have to use some patience, though, especially if the media files you use to spread the word doesn’t attract as many people as initially expected. Sometimes it takes time for people to notice the value of your media. Never fear, since your ads will be seen by lots of people who can potentially become your customers.

The only method to attain true internet marketing success in monetary terms is to ensure a continual flow of incessant traffic to one’s website. regardless of the quality of the website content, convertibility, a solid product and/or up-sells, back-ends, traffic is the only element crucial in ensuring consistent and sustained profits. Doing it right can mean a multiple-fold increase in revenue and of course the reverse is true.
Acting against the wishes of marketers for the above to be true, a major hurdle present in the modern online fraternity is the “web-smartness” of patrons and surfers. They are picky, choosy and afraid of scams almost against every ounce of information present. As the saying goes, whenever there is a crisis there exist and opportunity; the more granular the audience the better it is as it turns out because one’s articles become more and more targeted and effective.
The traditional way of attracting traffic is through the age-old pay per click (PPC) technique. The former works well but only insofar as attracting volumes of traffic at a colossal cost. it only serves to better click through rates but as a method it is far inapt because of the quality of traffic it garners. PPC customers are mostly what we call non-niche goers as they are not ardent to any specific topic and will most likely stay on one’s website for less than 30 seconds before leaving. Furthermore, from a marketer’s perspective what can a short advertisement tell to attract real substance?
Genuine article marketing then creates traffic in a couple of common-sensical but important ways. The first being the fact that articles are normally published on renown directories which Google spiders have a knack for searching and hitting because the former is mainly a information provider and has a great penchant for quality content. Keyword specific articles can be positioned very highly on prominent search engines via this piggy backing method on Google recognised directories. This way, one’s link in the resource section of the article has every chance of getting opened consequently resulting in specific and targeted traffic flowing into a designed sales channel.
The second is the fact that the links to one’s website in articles published on major directories create back-links. This has an effect of optimising the website so as opposed to articles ranking high in the previous case the website now ranks high for related keywords on the search engines. This is the intended result of both exercises though the gestation period for the second strategy is invariably longer and requires more consistent diligence.

The great North Walk Companion extract- pages 210-211
We take a detour down Stanford Street (opposite the Paxton Hotel) to see the site of Douglas’ mine, the Stanford 2 Colliery, and then walk on towards Millfield, about a further 3 km. It’s not the most direct route, but keeps us away from traffic.“Aunt Alice told me about her Dad, a bit anyway,” offers my companion as we turn away from the old mine site. “But when did Isabelle marry him?”“Well, Douglas continued to work here in Paxton and, as we know, their family grew — there was your great grandmother, Janet, Albert named after Doug’s father and baby Lynette. At home all was well — barring, of course, little Bertie’s disappearance but at work there was great unrest in the 1930s. Douglas as a manager had to deal with both sides: the workers who wanted better conditions, rightly so, and the owners who were facing the economic recession and the consequences of the great Depression. Paxton was caught up in larger movements. For example, in 1929, a man called Norman Brown was shot by police at Rothbury when thousands of miners protesting against non-union workers were unruly during a lock-out.”“So they wanted unions?”“They wanted reasonable conditions… some of the mines didn’t even provide safety lamps or rescue teams. anyway, the poor economic conditions combined with worker unrest, so that mines began closing. In 1937, Douglas is thrown out of work just like most of the men he used to manage. Then life really turned tough for the Ryans.”

Being an internet marketer and online entrepreneur, you know that your online exposure depends fully on the traffic you manage to attract. Knowing that, you long for guaranteed website traffic, spending money, hours and constant manual labor to achieve that goal. You try so hard, that you overlook the most important detail of all: that not just any traffic will make a long term impact on your business! What really counts is targeted traffic, such that brings visitors who are truly interested in your info.
Finding out proper keywords requires some serious work, but then again, you are serious about your business too and you know that some serious work has to be invested in order to achieve some serious results. this is where keyword research steps in and shows you how to accomplish those results. However, many people don’t see this challenge as a potential benefit, but unnecessary waste of time. You can do differently.
So let’s see why it is so important to determine just the right keyword. well, as the name of the word tells you, it is the main word that’s related to the (sub)niche you’re engaged with; a term or a phrase that best describes the problem you’re offering to solve to your viewers. The better you optimize your page with it, the higher search engine rank you’ll get and that simply means you’ll be found by the proper audience more easily. it is the key that opens the door to the targeted visitors whom you want to see your website, blog, presale page etc. Why to them specifically and not to a broader audience? because those visitors are much more likely to convert, since they came to see (read) your info with intention and specific search and not by accident. those people are your specific (targeted) audience that you target with your specific keyword or key phrase.
Other then achieving higher search engine ranking, keyword research is important to mention as a very powerful FREE traffic generation tool. this means that even with no extra investment you can steer your business into the best possible direction. this is an advantage that is definitely not to be taken for granted and that can save you a lot of money. if you take the research seriously and do it properly, you’ll see that guaranteed website traffic is not a mission impossible, but simply a deserved prize for the work invested.
