As a mets fan I hated this guy with a passion, but always respected what he did for the Yankees.
Too bad he didn’t buy the Mets way back when. We woulda been closer to 10 championships, instead of hunting for our 3rd.
Fucking despise the man with every bone in my body.
That said, he’s the most successful owner in the history of sports, and nothing ever took precedence over winning. Gotta respect that.
Cue the “I want people to pay attention to me because Daddy touched me when I was little” posts about Steinbrenner was gay and he’s going to burn in hell. come on Thurmansfiery, that’s you.
Steinbrenner was the fucking man- and any real sports fan will tell you they might of hated him with a passion but would have loved for him to own their team. Winning always came first. RIP boss.
I dont have any idea who the team is going to, I assume his sons but I really hope they spend less cash then he did. as a fading-sox fan it always sucked having a guy with a much bigger stack of chips at the table.
I’m deeply saddened by this but although the greatest owner a fan could ask for has passed away, his sons are chips off the old block. I would imagine he demanded as much success from them as he did from all of his business constituents and hopefully for us Yankees fans we can look forward to another 50 years of complete and utter dominance
No, I just dont like how we spend money. warner and henry have a billion dollars and they give me marco scutaro and bill hall, or how ibout brad penny and john smoltz. give george a billion dollars and he gets you CC and texy.
the redsox gots hometown discounts with youk, pedrioa and lester, now they expect everyone to sign for cheap. the fucking stadium has been sold out forever, seat prices keep going up and they keep bringing in cheaper and cheaper players.

I'm 17 and I've had it with the u.s. No one freakin plays soccer here. I'm moving alone to Argentina or Brazil to play soccer everyday for at least 3-4hrs. It's my greatest passion in life and I have to improve in it. what do you say? Any suggestions on other places?
i suggest england thats where i might go when im older
We will miss you.
Do it!! sounds like fun. or you can come to Miami! we play soccer over here we are filled with latinos from all over
Those are some of the most violent places on earth, and remember the very best play in places like these, are you that good? I remember when Ronaldino barely saw the field for his first 2 years. do you have a dedicated field / club to go to? if not don't do it.
Hey..look i'm a chick that loves football!..firstly say FOOTBALL…okay..yeah so i totally agree with you to move away..i say go to Brazil! because Brazil is the top place to learn football it's pratically their culture..players like Kaka whose a Brazilian totally mastered the game..and look he is name 2007 Euro player of the year while he also collected the best forward award..so go to Brazil…just learn portugese first..
If you´re white go to Argentina. and if you're black go to Brazil, they won't let you play in Brazil if you're white and american.
And don't worry, it's true that Brazil is a violent place but only in the suburbs. as for Argentina, it is much safer than the US. I've lived in both places, so I know.
good bye and good luck il miss you goodbye
Yeah you should go to England because that is where the american players are making it big like bocanegro and beasly. Good Luck and have fun with it
i feel you Alex but that's how it is in the US.i had to pay like 100 bucks to join and play in a league which to me is outrageous.where i come from,we could go anywhere and player soccer.out in the streets anywhere and here i have to pay.but if you feel that's the best choice for you then do it.Brazil would be best to nurture to skills cos of the soccer academy they have around and you can play with people out on the street.so go for it and remember us when u become a star.
dude take me with you!! haha
Coming to Argentina could be a good idea for you. People are warm with foreigners, soccer is very competitive and your savings will last because prices are cheaper than in the US and Europe.
I don't know if you are really serious about pursuing a career in soccer, or if you just want to spend a few months' vacation playing it. if it is the latter, then look for whatever sounds like the most fun. if it is the first, I can think of some tips for you.
First of all, I hope you are good, because it is a very competitive environment and you are not too young. Kids who are pursuing a career here either play at the professional clubs or in soccer schools run by guys (some are ex-players) who have contacts in the clubs and earn a percentage when their pupils secure contracts with clubs. Maybe you can earn your place in a club or school, but another way might be paying a fee, like 70 dollars a month or so I guess, for them to teach you if they don't see you fit for a future contract that would justify their expenses (I'm not sure about this, just guessing). Bear in mind that very few of the kids earn contracts and very very very few with good clubs, which are the ones that pay more than a low salary and open international opportunities.
If you earn your place in a club or school, it would be a way for you to learn a lot, and in two years or so, if you are not playing professionally here, you may go back to the US and either pursue a contract there or go for a college sports scholarship.
To keep expenses low, avoid the tourism market. Rent a room, not a furnished apartment. it will be hard to find a job, maybe you may find one teaching English or working on shops for tourists, a pub for example. Those could be good part-time jobs, as soccer would take much of your time if you are serious about it. but I wouldn't depend on finding a job if I were you. Budget some of your (family's) savings to live here like two years, you would be doing it for a life experience, to learn Spanish and to obtain a college scholarship in the US in the future (if you are good enough for that). if you find a job or succeed in professional soccer, then much better, your life will be more comfortable and you may stay longer.
If you are not that serious about soccer, you can come for a holiday and play it at the park or in a unprofessional club. you would have fun, but learn much less.
Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea. do you think you'll find people playing soccer around the streets in Brazil. Well, if you find, usually it's very "tough" people. It's like going to a black neighborhood in new Orleans and try to play basketball with them. the one that commented about beeing white is ignorant, there are lots of whites in Brazil. but you won't find them playing football in the streets.
Now, even if you manage to play… I don't know why do you think that playing against amateurs will make you better, even if those amateurs are from Brazil or Argentina. at your age, most (if not all) Brazilian and Argentinians top players were in youth clubs. at your age, some players were already playing in professional leagues. Ronaldo, for example, made his debut in Brazilian first division at the age of 16. you are beeing ingenous if you think that in the streets of Brazil you may have the luck of playing against a "new Ronaldo".
That's why Brazil and Argentina are so good in U-20 championships, because at that age most good Brazilian and Argentinian players are playing for in the first team of a first division club, while European players usually are still in youth clubs.
I think you should stay in your country and train as hard as you could. It's not impossible to be United Statesian and a good player (see DaMarcus Beasley or McBride).
That's it, I'm going to Argentina or Brazil to play soccer everyday. What do you say?

Mel Gibson and his estranged wife Robyn are reportedly being sued by Ramage Construction, with the company claiming the former couple owe them money for work on their one-time marital home in Malibu.
Mel Gibson is being sued over unpaid bills.
The actor and estranged wife Robyn are reportedly facing legal action from Ramage Construction, who have filed documents claiming they owe $6,631.06 for work on their former marital home in Malibu and for drawing up plans for another house.
However, according to gossip website TMZ, the owner of the company – who has worked for the former couple on various projects over the last 20 years – has been telling people that Mel and Robyn actually owe him around $200,000 for various projects.
A spokesperson for the star is yet to comment on the allegations.
Meanwhile, Mel has been urged to purchase a 600-year-old castle in southern Italy.
The 54-year-old star – who recently split from girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva – fell in love with the region after filming ‘The Passion of the Christ’ there and is now said to be looking for a local property.
Luciano Marranghello, the mayor of small town San Lorenzo del Vallo, thinks he knows a perfect getaway for the actor.
He said: “It’s a building from the 1500s with Spanish architecture because it was built following the marriage of the Spanish Mendoza and noble woman Lucrezia della Valle, who came from the town.”
The castle has 13,000 square metres of land surrounding it guaranteeing privacy, and the town has just 3,500 residents.
