MANCHESTER, Conn. — Authorities say several people were killed when a warehouse worker who had been told to resign opened fire at a beer distributor in Connecticut.

State police Lt. J. Paul Vance says the number of deaths hasn’t been confirmed in the shootings Tuesday morning in Manchester, about 10 miles east of Hartford.

Brett Hollander of Hartford Distributors has said at least three people were shot. He says 50 to 70 people were inside during a shift change and that the company is “just trying to figure out who’s shot, who’s not accounted for.”

Vance says authorities were searching the building to make sure everyone was accounted for.

Hollander says he did not know the shooter well and didn’t know how long he had worked at the company.

MEXICO CITY – a man with a mysterious bulge under his T-shirt was stopped, searched and detained at Mexico City’s international airport after authorities found 18 tiny endangered monkeys in a girdle he was wearing.

The Public Safety Department said in a statement Monday that 38-year-old Roberto Cabrera arrived on a commercial flight Friday from Lima, Peru, when authorities noticed the bulge and conducted a body search.

The department says Cabrera was carrying the 15-centimetre titi monkeys in pouches attached to the girdle.

Two of the monkeys were dead.

Cabrera was arrested on charges of trafficking an endangered species.

Cabrera told authorities he was carrying the monkeys in a suitcase but decided to put them in his girdle “so the X-rays wouldn’t hurt them.”

Why was Russian spy working at Microsoft? Looking for Windows 8 screenshots?

Who says that Google has all the mojo these days? The Washington Post reports that an alleged Russian spy who was just arrested worked at Microsoft. The Redmond company must be pleased to know that the Russkies targeted it rather than Google for industrial espionage.

The Washington Post says that Alexey Karetnikov entered the U.S. in October, settled in the Seattle area, and worked for Microsoft as a software tester. Karetnikov, the article says, is in his early to mid 20s and is a Russian citizen. he was deported to Russia on Tuesday.

Here’s what the Post says about the man:

Database searches show that someone with Karetnikov’s name had been living in an apartment in Redmond, Wash., since October. That man’s Facebook page says he worked for Microsoft and a Romanian-based software company called Neobit.

Lou Gellos, a Microsoft spokesman, confirmed that Karetnikov had worked at the company for about nine months as a software tester. he said Karetnikov is the man whom authorities deported on Tuesday but would not comment further.

It’s not clear what Karetnikov was supposed to be doing in the U.S. he hasn’t been charged with spying, and was deported based on immigration violations. The government says he had obtained no useful information to send back to Moscow, the Post reports: "he was just in the early stages; had just set up shop," said one senior federal law enforcement official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the details of the case were closely held. The official added that the FBI was monitoring the Russian almost immediately upon his arrival and that he had "obtained absolutely no information."

It’s unlikely a coincidence that the Russians sent a spy to work at Microsoft; one can easily imagine that they were looking for industrial and tech secrets of some kind. Secrets from a software tester, though? Were they looking for Windows 8 screenshots? Seeing whether Windows Phone 7 can compete against the iPhone and Android phones? Or maybe looking for ways to finally kill the Blue Screen of Death on Russian PCs?

Whatever the reason, Microsoft must be pleased to know that a world power thinks it’s more important to spy on it than on Google.

Getting caught like Martha Stewart seemed a bad thing to accused inside trader Danielle Chiesi.

“I’m dead if this leaks. I really am . . . and my career is over. I’ll be like Martha f- – -ing Stewart,” she allegedly stated on wiretaps recorded by the feds.

Chiesi, 43, an Upper East Sider, faces six counts of securities fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud in an indictment announced yesterday. she could end up imprisoned for decades.

Chiesi, who worked for New Castle Funds LLC, a former Bear Stearns affiliate, expressed fear in wiretapped speaks of being caught for gathering insider information, which she used for her own company’s trading and shared with hedge-fund kingpin Raj Rajaratnam.

she prefabricated the Martha Stewart crack in August 2008 discussing inside data about computer-chip maker AMD, the feds say. Stewart was convicted of insider trading in 2004 and served five months in prison.

Chiesi allegedly expressed similar fears to Rajaratnam a week early that authorities would learn she’d spread inside data about AMD and IBM.

“if it leaks, I think I’m out of business . . . because . . . who knows IBM? And who, who’s in bed with AMD? put Danielle’s study on the f- – -in’ ticket,” she said.

Chiesi was freed on $2 million bond at a Manhattan federal court hearing yesterday. Her lawyer, Alan Kaufman, stated she plans to plead not guilty at an appearance in November.

In the elevator afterward, her mother hugged and kissed her. “Please don’t do that,” Chiesi said.

Chiesi was a go-between, gathering inside information for Rajaratnam and her own firm’s trades, the feds say.

she and Rajaratnam allegedly profited from information they got from Robert Moffat, an IBM senior vice president who allegedly provided data about a possible IBM merger with Sun Microsystems that led to a $1 million windfall for New Castle.

Chiesi and Rajaratnam discussed getting Moffat work at another firm. “Put him in some company where we can trade well,” Rajaratnam said.

“I know, I know. I’m thinking that, too,” Chiesi replied.

“Or just keep him at IBM, you know, because this guy is giving me more information . . . I’d like to keep him at IBM right now because that’s a very powerful place for him. for us, too.”

Classified as Light Sport Aircraft, FAA Terrafugia special accommodation due to slow transition from the crowd. Tipping the balance of 1430 pounds, the transition is actually 110 pounds over the legal limit an LSA, but it was considered a flight-worthy, because the surplus is allocated to road safety, including airbags and crumple zones. Terrafugia wanted to transition to LSA format argue that the potential pilots flew only 20 hours to practice for an air permit.
